New to yoga? You’re in the right place.
If you've been thinking about trying yoga but keep talking yourself out of it — this page is for you.
It's not as intimidating as you think. Joyful Yoga is a small, welcoming studio where nobody expects you to know what you're doing on day one. You don't need experience, flexibility, or the right outfit. You just need to show up and we'll figure out the rest together.
Come and enjoy the practice. It’s as simple as that!
Add your name & email address below and I'll send you everything you need to know before attending your first yoga class.
From what to wear to what you can expect in a class. Plus I'll send a quick 15 minute video that will teach you how to use yoga props to support your practice.

FAQs
What class should I start with?
1
I recommend starting with Hips, Hams & Core, Yin, or New Moon Restorative. These classes move slowly and include plenty of instruction — perfect for someone new to the practice. From there, Gentle Flow is a natural next step, and eventually Vinyasa once you feel confident moving on and off your mat with ease.
What if I can’t keep up?
2
Start slow and trust that there's nothing you need to keep up with. Go at your own pace — I'm there to guide you, give you the props and support you need, and make sure you feel comfortable throughout. We've all been the beginner in the room. I've got you.
What should I wear?
3
Comfortable clothes you can move in — that's it. Good quality yoga pants from Old Navy or Walmart work perfectly, no need to invest in expensive gear before you know you love it. Sweats are totally fine too. Dress in layers so you can add or remove as needed, and come barefoot — though grippy socks are welcome if that's more comfortable for you.
What do I bring?
4
If you have a yoga mat, bring it — just make sure it's designed for yoga rather than a thick Pilates mat, which can actually work against you in a flow class. I love the Lululemon mats, and the Lole mats at Costco are a great option too. If you don't have one yet, no problem — we have mats at the studio. Props, blocks, straps, bolsters, blankets — we've got everything you need. Just bring yourself.
One thing people don't expect: yoga is traditionally practiced without water during class. Hydrate well before you come and again after. That said, if you need your emotional support water bottle, bring it. Your comfort is key.
What actually happens in a class?

We start with a little chat, then move into some centering before working through the practice together. You'll be given a card at the start of class to let me know whether you'd like hands-on adjustments or prefer I keep my hands to myself — totally your call.
From there I'll guide you through a series of postures, keeping an eye on everyone to make sure you're moving safely and stepping in whenever you need support. Every class ends with a relaxation — we lie on the floor and rest, which is honestly most people's favourite part. We'll take a moment to reflect before you head home, and I'm always available to answer questions after class.
I try to make every class fun, informative, and comfortable. The community here is genuinely welcoming — you'll feel that the moment you walk in.
